Beacon Senior Day!
Senior Day at the Fair
By Kevin K. VanGundy, BEACON Senior News
BEACON Senior News has some great events planned this year at the Mesa County Fair that are fun and free for our valley’s seniors.
Join us at the Mesa County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 25, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for an opportunity to win $1,000 and other valuable prizes.
There is no admission charge to the fair this year, so after you make your way through the main entrance, turn left and head to the BEACON tent for live entertainment and free activities.
That’s right—there’s no cost to play in these two sessions of bingo, and you can win $1,000 cash and other prizes! The first session, sponsored by Aging and Disability Resources for Colorado (ADRC), will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and the second session, sponsored by Hilltop Commons, will be from 1:30-3 p.m. Both sessions will be called by Grand Junction Senior Recreation Center volunteers. Arrive early to the Elam Construction Stage in the Mahindra Arena to get your lucky seat and card. Bingo seating is conveniently located in the covered arena next to the beer garden, which will be open.
Have you seen the pretty, painted river rocks popping up around town? You may have seen some with intricate designs or inspirational messages in parks, hiking trails, restaurant parking lots and various spots downtown. Spread some joy and express your creativity by painting your own rock in the BEACON tent for free. Rocks, paint, and supplies will be provided.
We have crafters from Craft & More on Main coming providing the materials and teaching you how to make DIY items in the BEACON tent.
Stallion Meet and Greet
Bring your camera! The Lipizzaner Stallions is one of the fair’s most popular shows. Sure, these regal stallions look great on stage, but you’ll be in awe when you see them up close and in person. The meet and greet will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. outside the BEACON tent.
Senior Lunch Special
We’ve made special arrangements with several of the fair’s food trucks to offer a $5 Senior Lunch Special for those age 55 and older.
Special thanks to this year’s fair sponsors for making it free, and a big thank you to the Mesa County Fair board for allowing the BEACON to host this special event for our community’s seniors.
